The wet weather failed to deter the enthusiasm of the Four Wheel Drive group that attended the outing at Jandakot to visit the R.F.D.S (Royal Flying Doctor Service) centre.
We met up with the other 4WD Clubs at the front gate of the airport in fine weather but with some dark clouds looming. A great turn out by the clubs with 22 vehicles and 38 people turning up. This had been organised by Wayne Williams of the Armadale 4WD Club and we were tagging along to the R.F.D.S like the rest of the clubs.

Amanda Duggan was our host at the R.D.F.S centre and she explained to us the running of the centre. After a video and an outline of the Service's history, Amanda answered some questions that were asked by the people from the different clubs. Before leaving the auditorium, Greg Bremer handed over a cheque for $2183, which had been raised by the clubs at the Lake Mason trip on Easter. With the price tag on new planes being 5 million dollars, they need a lot of money to make up the short fall that doesn't come from the government. This is raised through donations and sponsors and every contribution helps keep the Service running.
The operations centre is housed 24 hours a day to receive calls from people in need. Unfortunately the weather had changed and the rain stopped us from looking inside the new aircraft that were on the apron at the airport. We had a quick look in the hanger area, were the mechanics were doing maintenance to one of their older planes and then continued on to the souvenir shop. A few gifts where bought and a few of us decided to go down to the Aero Club for a drink, but unfortunately the bar was closed. A couple of us then headed down to the hotel at CanningVale and had a few drinks there. The rest of the club headed off from the R.D.F.S.
I would like to thank Amanda from the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Wayne Williams from the Armadale 4WD Club for putting on a great day.
